Rock The Bells Festival 2011

“LL Cool J is hard as hell / Battle anybody I don’t care if you tell / I excel, they all fail / I’m gonna crack some shells, Double-L must ROCK THE BELLS”  (“Rock The Bells” LL Cool J 1986)

The 8th annual Rock The Bells festival tour is back and I must say, this year’s lineup is stellar!  In my humble opinion, it’s one of – if not – the best they’ve ever had.  Most of the featured artists will be performing full albums…many of them certified classics.

Ms. Lauryn Hill with “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, Nas “Illmatic”, Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli performing “Black star”, Mobb Deep “Infamous”, Raekwon + Ghostface do “Only Built For Cuban Links” and Gza with “Liquid Swords”!  And the list does not stop…Common performs the full “Be” album, Erykah Badu giving us “Baduizm” (tho I personally wish it was “Mama’s Gun” she was doing!), Cyrpess Hill “Black Sunday”, Black Moon “Enta Da Stage” and Souls of Mischief doing “93 Till Infinity”.

This lineup alone is pretty much mind-blowing and essentially a wet-dream for those of us who love 90’s and Early 2000’s hip hop!  But peep this…it still continues.  Also performing on stage will be Blu (one of the few mc’s from the new generation that I absolutely enjoy listening to*) with Exile and Fashawn, new supergroup Random Axe (Black Milk, Sean Price, Guilty Simpson), Masta Killa, Slaughterhouse, RZA and the list still goes on.  This is just silly.  With that lineup, you know there will be some incredible surprise guests too.

Frankly, since RTB’s 2004 beginning, this is by far the most excited I have been about an RTB lineup.

There are only 4 shows this year, and unfortunately, Chicago has once again been dropped from the lineup.  This year’s venues:
Los Angeles – AUG 20
San Francisco – AUG 27
New York City – SEP 3
Boston – SEP 10

Who’s down for a trip??
