The 1963 Loyola University Ramblers basketball squad ushered in a new era of racial equality in sports. In 1963 America, teams did not start more than three African-American players. Ever. Coach George Ireland started four and did some major winning. Loyola University (24-2) held a national-best 94 points per game average. Even amidst protests, they defeated an all-white Mississippi State squad and Duke, en route to beating the two-time defending champion University Of Cincinnati Bearcats for the National Title. Celebrate this accomplishment with the Loyola ’63 Champs Box Set (at – I must say – a very reasonably priced $35) which includes commemorative t-shirt, poster and DVD. Each box is individually numbered and limited strictly to 1,963 copies. Respect.
